Many people suffer from headaches and migraines. They may come and go with stress or a lack of water. They may get worse after activity or during a woman's menstrual cycle. There are different strategies for treating headaches using Traditional Chinese Medicine. Using Channel Theory and the Balance Method, the affected channels of the head can be balanced through the use of other points on the body. As balance is regained, the headaches become less intense and less frequent.
Another approach is through pattern discrimination. The causes and characteristics of the headache, combined with other signs and tongue/pulse diagnosis, helps to pinpoint the pattern of disharmony. Acupuncture is then used to harmonize the pattern, helping to relieve the headache.
Both strategies are extremely effective. While acupuncture is not a quick fix, the results of harmonizing the Qi flow and patterns of the body can have a longer lasting effect than with medication.
